Is there a way to change colors and styles in this test forum to see what may be possible and what can be customized?

If you're using the paid version, there are a bunch of skins to choose from that are based on https://bootswatch.com/

If you're rolling your own instance from the open source project, the same concept applies, it's all Bootstrap. In both cases, you can use your own Bootstrap build or overrides. See https://forums.pointbuzz.com/Forums for an example.
